(serve 5-6)
Ingredients

1 1/2lb sliced Bramley Apples (or similar)
9 oz shortcrust pastry
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp caster sugar
1 oz butter (cubed)
3 1/2 oz soft brown sugar
1 tbsp plain flour

Method

Preheat over to 200C/gas 6. Mix the cinnamon, brown sugar and flour together in a large bowl. Arrange a layer of the sliced apples in the base of a medium pie dish (which has been greased first). Sprinkle some of the cinnamon, sugar and flour mix on top and repeat the process until the dish is filled. Over the top layer of sliced apples, place cubes of butter. Next roll the shortcrust pastry out so it’s just slightly larger than the pie dish, cover the dish. Press down the edges using either a fork or your finger. Brush the top of the dish with water and sprinkle with the caster sugar. Bake in the oven for approximately 35 - 40 until golden. Serve with ice cream or custard. Simple.
