Easy Economy Doughnuts

1 small egg
4oz plain flour
1/2 pint milk
1 tsp sugar
pinch of salt
raspberry or strawberry jam
4 slices of white bread (crusts removed)

Firstly make the batter by beating the egg lightly in a bowl, stir in flour and enough milk to make a smooth paste, then add rest of the milk, sugar and salt, beat then rest the mixture for 15 mins. Spread each slice of bread with strawberry or raspberry jam, then sandwich together. Cut each sandwich into 4, dip each portion into batter mix and fry in a shallow frying pan till batter is crisp and golden.
